One of the smallest turtles in the world (shell length some 10 cm), it has unusual white irises and eyes that research has shown able to watch two subjects at the same time (independent accomodation). The hook on its beak is used to assist in climbing. Like most Asian turtles, it is in danger of extinction by over-collection for food, medicine and the pet trade.
