Grey Dagger Moth
The Grey Dagger and the Dark Dagger (Acronicta tridens) look identical, although individual moths of each vary. The names "dagger", "psi" and "tridens" are from the markings on the moths which resemble a dagger, the Greek letter or a trident. (The different American "Gray Dagger" is related.)

Both moths are prevalent in much of Europe and parts of North Africa and Asia. Curiously, the Dark Dagger is usually lighter than the Grey Dagger and often has whiter underwings. The colourful caterpillars of each moth are more different and that of the Dark Dagger is darker. (They have similar food plants.) Wingspan 30-45mm; UK flight time Jun-Aug.
