The Yellow-faced Parrot is native to South America. It used to be classed as the Yellow-faced Amazon but was moved from that genus.

Like the Short-tailed Parrot, it is from the Amazon basin area and the only bird in its genus. They are both related to each other and to the Pionus genus of parrots.
