The Violet-necked Lory, native to Indonesia, lives in moist tropical lowlands. There are three subspecies with different ranges and with different amounts of violet colouring on their necks. Above is the nominate Violet-necked subspecies (E. s. squamata).

Obi Violet-necked Lory
Another subspecies, above is the Bechstein Violet-necked Lory (E. s. riciniata), a darker hue of violet, more violet/less red and the violet neck can partially join the violet front. The other subspecies, the Obi, (E. s. obiensis) has very little or no violet on its neck.
