The Violet-necked Lory, native to Indonesia, lives in moist tropical lowlands. There are three subspecies with different ranges and with different amounts of violet colouring on their necks. Above is the nominate Violet-necked subspecies (E. s. squamata).

Another subspecies, above, is the Bechstein Violet-necked Lory (E. s. riciniata), a darker hue of violet, more violet/less red and the violet neck can partially join the violet front.

The other subspecies, the Obi, (E. s. obiensis) has very little or no violet on its neck (can have some black). Thanks to Iggino van Bael for the above 2 photos of the Obi.
