The Musk Lorikeet is also called the Red-eared Lorikeet. It is the only species in its genus (others having been re-assigned).

In addition to the red "ears" and brow, they have red-tipped beaks and a yellow patch at the side of the breast. The pale blue crown is less extensive on the female than on the male.
