The Black-legged Caique, also Parrot, was until recently called the Yellow-thighed White-bellied. It is native to Brazil, mainly south of the Amazon, and eastern Peru/Bolivia.

Until recently, there were only 2 species of caique: the Black-headed and the White-bellied. The White-bellied, also called White-breasted and Apricot-headed, had three subspecies: the Green-thighed (nominal), the Yellow-thighed (shown) p.l. xanthomeria, and the Yellow-tailed p.l. xanthurus, (as yellow-thighed with yellow upper tail). These have now been split into separate full species.

Bizarrely, the yellow-thighed White-bellied Caique was renamed the Black-legged Caique. Black legs are not its dominant feature - the Black-headed has black legs but some yellow-thighed have pinkish grey legs.

"Caique", pronounced "Ka-ee-k" is named after a white shirt with a ruffled front. All Caiques, not just the "white-bellied", have white fronts.
