Peters's Twinspot, also called the Red-throated Twinspot, is a small, brightly-coloured finch native to much of Central, East and southern subSaharan Africa.

Male and female have similar plumage. They are not flocking finches, preferring to socialise in pairs and family units.

They are visually similar to a number of other dark finches with spotted bellies and red patches: the only other finch in their genus is the Pink-throated Twinspot of southeast Africa; Dybowski's Twinspot and the Green-backed Twinspot are both totally different genera (from Peters's and from each other); the females of the 3 Bluebill finches are also dark with bright red and spotted bellies.
