Oriental Fire-bellied Toad is native to Korea, northeastern
China and southeastern Siberia. Despite its common name, it
is not a true toad but a frog.
From above, it is a camouflaged green with black cryptic
markings. The underside is black with bright orange, warning
potential predators that it is toxic. The fingertips are
The eggs are laid like frog spawn. There are several other
species of Fire-bellied Toad in genus Bombina in
other regions of the world.
Although usually light green in their Asian habitat, the
frogs can turn darker to blend with a darker background.
