The American Crocodile is native to coastal areas and estuaries of the central Americas from southern Mexico through the Carribbean to northern South America, both on Atlantic and Pacific coasts. It is also present in the USA in southern Florida, the only region of the world where crocodiles' and alligators' ranges overlap.

The American Crocodile is one of the largest crocodiles and the larger male can reach up to 20 feet (6 metres) length. Like the larger Australian Saltwater Crocodile, they are happy with brakish or salt water but they need warm tropical waters.
