Common Quaker Moth Orthosia cerasi (/stabilis)

Common Quaker moth
Common Quaker moth
This unfortunate moth was found drowning in a bird bath (possibly dropped out of the sky to evade a bat or mistook a reflection in the water)
-- but it dried out OK on paper towel and eventually flew away. Wingspan 34-40mm; UK flight time Mar-Apr.

The Common Quaker moth varies a little in intensity of background markings, the wet one being quite plain without much of a black central line, but all have a pale line bordering the back edge of the forewing intersected by thin pale lines and also have a pale line bordering the two "stigmata" (blotches) on each forewing.
