The Grey-headed Lemur has a very limited range in the southeast of Madagascar and is one of the top 5 rarest primates.
Formerly called White-collared (Brown) Lemur, E. albocollaris, it
was renamed the Grey-headed Lemur, E. cinereiceps, in 2008.
The male Grey-headed Lemur, above, has dark fur with a distinctive white beard
The female Grey-headed Lemur, above, is browner and has only a tiny suggestion of a white beard.
The limited population continues to decline through loss of forest habitat to agriculture and trapping/shooting.
