The FORGET-ME-NOT SHIELDBUG, Sehirus luctuosus, is a ground-living bug that feeds on forget-me-nots. All black, it has an oval shape from above and very hairy legs.
There are several black shieldbugs with a rounded shape living on the ground or in the soil feeding on plant roots, generally called Burrowing Bugs and resembling beetles.

The HEATHER SHIELDBUG, Rhacognathus punctatus, is dark and tiny; often dark bronze-brown with orange banded legs, it can be, as this one, all black with slight iridescence except for white bars on the middle and back legs and some white spots on the rear of its body. It has the typical shieldbug shape with "frilled skirt" and preys on Heather Beetles and their grubs.
It landed on my fleece in my garden in London before taking flight again. -- Many thanks to Maria Justamond for the ID.
