German Wasp Vespula germanica

German Wasp face
German Wasp thorax and abdomen
The German Wasp is as common in much of the UK and Eurasia as the Common Wasp. The pattern of worker wasps' abdomens varies less than on the Common Wasp. The face, top left, usually has three isolated dots on the "nose" but may have a pendulum (which might be confused with the anchor of the Common Wasp) plus two dots (unlike the Common Wasp). On the back of the thorax, the second row of yellow marks on the lower thorax are thinner than the first but the space between the first pair is equidistant to the space between the second pair.
