Beautiful but ragged
Swallowtail butterfly in NW London garden has lost most of it's swallow
tail, -- worn, eaten or pecked away. The most surprising thing about it was not it's battered state but the fact that it was in my garden in Northwest London on 14 July 2006. The British swallowtail, the UK's largest butterfly, is confined to the Norfolk fens area. This one is a foreign swallowtail (the African Citrus or Christmas Swallowtail from sub-Saharan Africa) -- a release or escapee from a collector (or blown badly off course).
