The Harris Hawk is native to the Americas, from southwest US to South America.

Feral hawks elsewhere are usually escapees from falconry.

It is unusual among hawks as it hunts communally and cooperatively in a family flock, often including a female with 2-3 males plus offspring that may stay, hunt and nest together for a few years.
