The Elegant Parrot, also called Elegant Grass Parakeet, is one of several small grass parrots from Australia, some of whose females look similar to the olive green Elegant (e.g. Red-rumped, Hooded). The male Elegant Parrot has similar plumage to the female (female is a little duller with a narrower dark blue brow band; juveniles don't have the brow band) instead of the bright colours of most other male grass parrots. Elegant Parrots are native to two separate regions, one in southwestern Australia and one in the southeast of South Australia.

The Blue-winged Parrot, also called the Blue-winged or Blue-banded Grass Parakeet, looks very like the Elegant. It is native to southeast Australia, including Tasmania. Unusually for parrots, some Tasmanian birds migrate north to the Australian mainland for the winter.
