There are two species of Caique, the White-bellied and the Black-headed, both also called Parrot instead of Caique.
The former comes from Brazil and eastern Peru, mainly north of the Amazon.
The White-bellied species, also called White-breasted and Apricot-headed, has three subspecies:
the Yellow-thighed Caique (above, p.l. xanthomeria), the Green-thighed Caique (below) and the Yellow-tailed Caique (as above with yellow upper tail).
More Yellow-thighed White-bellied Caiques.
The nominate White-bellied Caique species, p.l. leucogaster above, has green thighs (looks like an Irish flag in orange, white and green).
"Caique", pronounced "Ka-ee-k"is named after a white shirt with a ruffled front.
