The Mountain Parakeet lives at high altitude in the Andes of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru. The Latin name "aurifrons" means gold-fronted but only the male (above right) has a yellow front (brow, face, chest, belly), the female (above left) being plainer green. |

The Red-billed sub-species of Mountain Parakeet (Bolborhynchus aurifrons rubrirostris), above, is darker green with a bluish green front. The male has a pale pink bill. |
