The Scaly-headed Pionus or Parrot, also called Maximilian's Pionus, comes from central and eastern South America. As its name suggests, the feathers on the head are outlined in dark grey-blue giving appearance of scales. It has a white eye-ring, blue-purple chest and, as all Pionus species, a red vent/undertail. Plumage on male and female is similar. |
