The SHORT-TAILED PARROT, as its name
suggests, has a very short tail.
It is the only parrot in its genus and comes from South America. |
The YELLOW-FACED PARROT is also from South America.
It used to be classed as the Yellow-faced Amazon but was moved from
that genus. |

Graydidascalus brachyurus |
Alipiopsitta
xanthops |
|
Both are from the Amazon basin area, the
only bird in their genus and are related to each other and to the
Pionus genus of parrots. |

Male and female
have similar plumage although the amount of yellow and red
mottling varies with individual birds.
(An African parrot called the Yellow-fronted Parrot,
Poicephalus flavifrons,
is also sometimes confusingly called the Yellow-faced
Parrot.) |
