The
Swainson's (moluccanus)
sub-species of "Rainbow" Lorikeet is one of the most numerous and,
being the most brightly-coloured, is the one most people refer to as simply
the "Rainbow Lorikeet", although in fact all
Trichoglossus haematodus
sub-species are "Rainbow" lorikeets and the "nominate" one (Trichoglossus haematodus haematodus) is the "Green-naped"
sub-species.
Swainson's Rainbow has a full bright
blue head with red beak, a greenish-yellow nape, orange/pink and yellow
breast (no dark feather edges), bright blue stomach and green
thighs. It comes from
Australia, Polynesia (of course; all
parrots should come from Pollynesia)
and Indonesia. |
