Deplanche's Lorikeet Deplanche's Lorikeet

Deplanche's Lorikeet is another "Rainbow" lorikeet. It has a little blue on its face on a black and purple head, a light green nape, red breast with dark feather edges, green stomach and thighs. Deplanche's is similar in appearance to the Green-naped Lorikeet, but is darker (especially the head), has less dark edging to the breast feathers and has a less-mottled underside. It comes from New Caledonia but should not be confused with the probably extinct New Caledonian Lorikeet (Charmosyna diadema).
