The Chattering Lory, Lorius garrulus, comes from North Maluku, Indonesia. As its name indicates, it is vocal. There are three sub-species: the nominate species above is red with green wings and thighs, yellow at the top of the wing and a fully red back or sometimes just a tiny yellow spot on the upper back. |

The Morotai Yellow-backed sub-species, L. garrulus morotaianus, has a little more yellow on its back but less than the Yellow-backed below. | |

The more usually seen sub-species in captivity is the Yellow-backed Chattering Lory, L. garrulus flavopalliatus, with a large yellow diamond-shaped patch on its upper back. |
