The Blue-eared Lory is red with purple-blue feathers on its cheek, "chin" and "ears", as well as on its lower belly, thighs and patterns on its back. Also called the Seram/Ceram Lory or Half-masked Lory, it lives at high altitude on the Indonesian island of Seram. It is the smallest of the Eos lories.

The Violet-necked Lory, also from Indonesia, lives in moist tropical lowlands. There are three sub-species with different ranges and with different amounts of violet colouring on their necks. Above is the nominate Violet-necked sub-species (Eos squamata squamata). |
