Hanging Parrots are the only parrots (and birds) that can sleep upside-down. They also frequently forage upside down hanging from twigs to reach seeds and buds.

The male Philippine Hanging Parrot, above, has a red bib.

The female Philippine Hanging Parrot, above, does not have the red bib.

Both have a red rump.

Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot

The Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot comes from Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Borneo). Male and female have similar plumage but the male (above) has a stronger blue crown, bright red bib and yellow/orange upper back; the female (below) has a less-pronounced crown, a green upper back and may not have a red bib.

Vernal/Indian Hanging Parrot

The Vernal Hanging Parrot, also called the Indian and the Green Hanging Parrot, is native to India and Southeast Asia. Male and female have similar plumage, mainly green for camouflage in trees, with a small, light-blue throat patch and red rump. Females have a less-pronounced throat patch or it may be absent.
