The Bluebonnet, also called Blue Bonnet, is a small, blue-faced grass parrot from Australia. Male and female have similar plumage; the female can be duller in colour.

There are four sub-species, the Red-vented Bluebonnet, Northiella haematogaster haematorrhous above and immediately below, from eastern Australia (southern Queensland and northern New South Wales), the Yellow-vented, from S.E. Australia, shown further down this page, the Pallid Yellow-vented and the Naretha from southern Australia.

Above and below is the Yellow-vented Bluebonnet, the nominal and more common species, Northiella haematogaster haematogaster, from southeast Australia.

Usually just called the Bluebonnet, its plumage is similar to the bird above except for the vent (below the red belly, before the tail) which is yellow rather than red.
