The Ringed Plover is prevalent in northern Eurasia and the Canadian east coast. Some migrate south for winter to Africa/west Asia and some remain. The breeding male has more black marking through the eye and on his breast band than the female.

The juvenile Ringed Plover has a black bill, dull grey-orange legs and a partial breast band (adult has mainly orange bill with black tip, brighter orange legs and complete, black breast band).
