The Gannet, also called the Northern Gannet to distinguish from southern hemisphere species, dives from height and pursues fish under water.
Gannets have blue eyelids, big, striped beaks and striped, webbed feet.
Gannets have a reputation for being voracious eaters who will eat anything. This unfortunate young gannet has tried to eat some green nylon string or netting which is entangled round its beak.
It looks as though the green string has also passed through the bird and is trailing through its vent.
Or maybe it is tangled round its feet.
