The Northern Bald or Waldrapp Ibis is native to North Africa and the Middle East but is critically endangered in the wild. It is being re-introduced to Turkey and Southern Europe.

Unlike other ibises (except the Southern Bald Ibis below), it is not a water/wading bird but lives/eats on land, often in arid areas.

The Southern Bald Ibis is the only other ibis which inhabits dry areas away from water. It comes from an area of Southern Africa and also has an unfeathered face and head, but with a red cap.
