The White-capped Mollymawk is the largest of the Mollymawk type of small Albatrosses. It breeds around New Zealand's coast and offshore islands. It used to be called the Shy Mollymawk (Thalassarche cauta) but was split out to be a separate species recently. They look identical but have different regions. White-capped is a misleading name since many Albatrosses have white caps.
The eye markings make it look to be frowning. Like all Albatrosses, the White-capped has a massive wingspan. The wingspan can be over 2.5 metres for a bird 90 cm in length.
