The Goldeneye is a small sea duck native to northern Europe and northern America. The drake in breeding plumage, above, has a metallic green sheen on his head and round/oval white spots each side of his bill.
The metallic sheen needs the right light to be visible
The duck's name is due to its light yellow eye
The female also has light white-yellow eyes; she has a grey body with a brown head.
