As it's common name suggests, the Baikal Teal comes from Siberia; its Latin name means beautiful duck, which certainly applies to the male in breeding plumage as shown. |

As with most ducks, the female is much plainer and well-camouflaged on the nest. She can be distinguished from the Common Teal by white patch on her chin/cheek and the white spot near the beak. |
