The Green Wood Hoopoe, previously called the Red-billed Wood Hoopoe, comes from sub-Saharan Africa, from West to East to South Africa.
It looks a little like a small, long-tailed Chough. Not very green and not a true Hoopoe, they are related to Scimitarbills and,
more distantly, to Hoopoes. The Green Wood Hoopoe also looks very like the Violet and Black-billed Wood Hoopoes.
Males and females have similar plumage, with iridescent green, blue and purple highlights (the scientific name is purple rather than green) and long, curved, red bills. Juveniles have black bills.
Wings and under-tail are barred with white
