The male Spanish Sparrow  has darker, sharper markings than the northern House Sparrow, a bandit mask and an all-brown "hairstyle"

The female Spanish Sparrow also has stronger markings than her northern House Sparrow counterpart

The juvenile Spanish Sparrow also has stronger markings than the northern House Sparrow counterpart

The male Tree Sparrow also has an all-brown "hairstyle" plus a white collar and a distinctive black cheek patch.

A shy rural bird in the UK, it is a gregarious urban bird like the House Sparrow in parts of Europe, Asia (native) and Australasia (introduced).
