The Red Bishop is a weaver
bird (weaves suspended nest of shredded palm leaves) native to sub-Saharan Africa, although
introduced to a number of western hemisphere countries. The Northern Red Bishop (Euplectes franciscanus), shown above centre (breeding male), can have orange or scarlet breeding plumage and lives north of the equator. The Southern Red Bishop (Euplectes orix), shown above left and right, looks similar and lives south of the equator. Other names include Orange Bishop and the West Nile Red Bishop. |
