The Yellowhammer is a species of bunting. The male (shown above) has a bright yellow head, pale yellow front and a typical bunting or sparrow type brown wings with black streaks.
The female (below centre) is duller and streakier. The name "hammer" is from the German for bunting (- ammer: the Yellowhammer being Goldammer in German).
Its range extends across much of Eurasia and it has also been introduced to New Zealand and Australia.
